Making Up Home School Games
One of the best ways a parent can use to teach their students is to make up games in order for them to learn in a fun atmosphere. Home school games make teaching a lot easier than fighting with the kid to do some project. If the kid can learn and have fun doing it, then continue to use that tool.
It is hard enough to teach kids at home, so when something works and the parent didn’t have to threaten the child with severe punishment, there has been a breakthrough. Home school games can be made up as the parent goes through the lesson. One example would be in math.
Have a series of questions, maybe ten all together. For each question answered correctly and in succession, give the student a small reward such as a snack. Make the game have an ultimate prize like if all ten questions were answered correctly then they could have a friend spend the night on the coming Friday night.
Another home school game could be in the form of a basketball game. Have the parent ask grammar questions. Make the first shot close and move the distance each time there is a correct or incorrect answer.
If the student answers correctly, keep the distance close. If the answer is wrong, then make the shot longer. As a question is asked, allow the student to answer. If they are wrong they still have the opportunity of staying close by making the basket.
Before beginning, show the student the rewards for answering the questions correctly. Make the top prize something like a favorite meal or a favorite dessert.

Another game that could be fun would be to get out the monopoly board. Cut small papers to go over each of the landing spots. On each spot have a particular subject picked out.
What would have been St. Charles place can become history. All of the colors that are the same would have history questions. If the student gets the question right, they can buy that spot. If the parent lands on the purchased spot, they have to pay whatever the game says is the amount.
If parents aren’t good at making up games, they can find suggestions for home school games on home school internet sites. There are a lot of websites that might have games listed on them. Copy or print the game and then play it with the student. There are also games available to the public which work well for home school games.
Games such as Scrabble and Yahtzee will enforce teaching in language and mathematics, respectively. When the home schooled child is having a difficult time concentrating or focusing taking a break from the normal school routine and playing a game may encourage renewed efforts by the child.
